The Lake District village of Threlkeld
is a walker's paradise being located on the slopes of Blencathra.
The village is also close to Skiddaw and the Helvellyn range
and a short drive delivers you to the Borrowdale fells and
the Central Lake District fells.
Blencathra
is literally on the doorstep of Bencathra (see the photo above!).
One of the main walking routes up this incredible mountain
runs directly behind the property so pack your lunch, pull
on your boots and begin the walk (and leave the car at home!).
You can also head up Skiddaw by either walking along the
old railway track then up Latrigg and on to Skiddaw OR walk
up Blease Road, round Blencathra to the back of Skiddaw and
up to the summit - A quieter more stunning walking experience.
Not
all the walking from Ling Close is quite as extreme. Heading
on to the old railway line to Keswick is a beautiful four
mile flat walk which follows the meandering river to the Keswick
hotel. You can picnic beside the river bank and enjoy the
tranquility of the Lakeland scenery.
We can't forget the mountain bikers on this page. One of
the great Lakeland rides is round Skiddaw. Start from Ling
Close and head up Blease Road. Go around the side of Blencathra
to the back of Skiddaw. Head down to Bassenthwaite and continue
past Dodd Wood. Finally go up Latrigg and down the shallow
side back to Threlkeld. Fantastic.
